The sugar maple, also known as the hard maple, is a species native to the southern forests of Quebec. Valued for maple syrup production, this native tree is also used for furniture making. In fact, when making furniture, knots are often considered undesirable. Wood is ordered according to certain grades and standards, and knots are generally hidden… But in the Cambium Arte collection, we give them free rein! Every time, it’s a success. Indeed, knots are often accompanied by unique features in the grain and texture. Look at this sugar maple disc, it would have been a shame not to highlight the knot! If you have a soft spot for this tree species, MATPEL offers other discs made from the same wood in its Cambium Arte collection.

The pieces in the Cambium Arte collection are the result of careful attention and deep respect for solid wood that passes through our hands. Indeed, at MATPEL Ecological Carpentry, the woodworkers make it a priority to find, preserve, and reveal exceptional pieces hidden in even the smallest wood scraps and boards. Cambium Arte is a collection of wall art made exclusively from local wood species. Each piece is crafted by hand with care and respect. Furthermore, the finish applied contains low VOCs, preserving the natural look of the wood while enhancing the richness of its details. The hanging or mounting systems are pre-installed and thoughtfully designed. All that’s left is to hang the pieces on the wall!
