CREATIVE PROCESS
There is something poetic about the grain in a piece of wood. As with any other form of beauty, the eye is trained to discover subtleties that may go unnoticed at first glance. This is what leads us to describe the crafting of trees as an art form, which we transform into wall art when the right pieces pass through our hands.
Cambium is a microscopic layer of bark which contributes to the growth of the tree during its lifetime. Our work is on this scale: the infinitely small. A speck of dust in the wood industry. And it is a tiny fraction of all the wood material that passes through our workshop. A kind of natural selection.
Only local species, handmade finish and very low VOC. Hanging or fixing systems are pre-installed and well thought out.

RECOVERY
MATPEL ecological woodworking recovers urban trees and operates in a custom production context. In the course of a year, our woodworkers handle a lot of solid wood. When a tree proves to be uniquely creativeand has left its mark on the slightest slice, our woodworkers set it aside for Cambium Arte, to be used as wall art.
All the pieces in the Cambium Arte collection are displayed simply to reveal the beauty produced by nature. Our job is to spot it and showcase these exceptional pieces.
Each piece is handcrafted with care and respect. The finish is neatly done so that the details are highlightedwhile respecting the natural side of the wood pieces.

DESIGNER FURNITURE FROM THE MATPEL TEAM
It is with immense collective pride that MATPEL Ecological Woodworking introduces LA COLLECTION SINGULIÈRE. Beyond an original design, created by the lifeblood of the woodworking shop, a winning concept was born: a collection of ecological, simple, and stylish designer furniture.
When Junior, a long-time MATPEL employee, returned from vacation with a notebook full of drawings, we knew we were on to something: a creative project led by cabinetmakers in the workshop and supervised by managers from afar.
A CONTEMPORARY AND ORIGINAL LOOK
Visually, LA COLLECTION SINGULIÈRE ecological furniture is light and appears to be floating in space. Designed with one main supporting leg, the pieces must be attached to the wall to hold correctly. After all, we are cabinetmakers, not magicians.
GREEN OPTIMIZATION
In the course of our regular activities, the workshop generates unused sheet panels. We believe that the ideal ecological piece of designer furniture is one that involves as little transportation as possible. For this reason, the furniture in LA COLLECTION SINGULIÈRE is designed to optimize the internal management of our material and generate an internal circular economy.
One piece of SINGULIÈRE designer furniture is designed to fit in a single 4′ x 8′ sheet to minimize waste. Scraps produced from one model are then used to build another model. Or two pieces of furniture are made from a single wood panel. Once this is no longer possible, we order new materials. The colours and essences of LA COLLECTION SINGULIÈRE may therefore vary, depending on the production underway at MATPEL.
Examples of this design constraint abound on the internet (see here), but these pieces sometimes lack refinement. We are quite proud of our outcomes, which stand out for their skilled craftsmanship rather than DIY-style.
