Hackberry burl is most commonly found in southern Ontario and the Midwest United States. Its wood has a very unique and warm orange color. This example of a slab, carefully worked and finished by our team, gives you a beautiful glimpse of the hues of this wood.

Just like on the slab, the rings of this Hackberry burl wood disc form beautiful flame patterns. The grain on the lower part also shows wavy effects. The finish takes advantage of this feature to create a sense of depth in the material. Upon closer inspection and depending on the angle from which the slab is observed, one might even see the surface of a flowing stream making its way among the stones.
The pieces in the Cambium Arte collection are the result of careful attention and deep respect for solid wood that passes through our hands. Indeed, at MATPEL Ecological Carpentry, the woodworkers make it a priority to find, preserve, and reveal exceptional pieces hidden in even the smallest wood scraps and boards. Cambium Arte is a collection of wall art made exclusively from local wood species. Each piece is crafted by hand with care and respect. Furthermore, the finish applied contains low VOCs, preserving the natural look of the wood while enhancing the richness of its details. The hanging or mounting systems are pre-installed and thoughtfully designed. All that’s left is to hang the pieces on the wall!
