Our approach requires cutting the trees lengthwise rather than into log rounds to obtain majestic wood slabs. Our work is inspired by the legendary master woodworker: George Nakashima.

By salvaging urban trees and transforming them into magnificent wood slabs used to create high-end custom pieces for your space, your beloved tree gets a second life, preserving its history and heritage. And, if happily, your favourite tree has not been marked with an orange line, we have wood slabs in stock (and will have more…the biggest trees are in the city) for your project. Our inventory includes a variety of species (maple, ash, cherry, elm, beech, pine), sizes, and shapes.
Transforming long and wide beautiful wood slabs into anything you want completes MATPEL’s offering of custom-made, high-end wood products. We can create live edge pieces, with or without bark, or resize wood slabs to meet your specific needs. We can also transform wood slabs from other suppliers, as needed.
With this project, we take pride in achieving several noble business objectives: working with a resource that is entirely local, reusing materials to create eco-friendly products, and working on projects with high artistic value.
Our wood is dried with care to arrive at the optimal moisture content for woodworking. We do not sell green wood or exotic wood species clear-cut in old-growth forests. We only cut dead trees, ensuring minimal impact on the environment. Our offering is the most sustainable possible. Respectful and local.
